This project was to design a e-book cover based on a randomly generated title. The goal of this piece is to create a scene that conveys the core concept of the imagined story in depth and also engaged audiences in it. “Insomnia Consumption” is a fantasy novel based on illusions from the main character, who is suffering from sleeplessness.
The illustration is intended to let audiences experience the insanity and paranoia the main character feels under long-term restlessness. Counting sheep is a mental exercise that people use to put themselves to sleep and it also became my inspiration for the design. By reversing the cute impression among audiences, I made the sheep flood in and smother the character in order to contrast with common sense. The flooding sheep is an exaggerated way to show insomnia is drowning the main character and consuming him at the same time. The herd walks toward the character and tries to bury him.
