Sea of Marrow

  • A skull arises from the froth of foam on the ocean. The senses, depicted as flowers, emerge from this vast ocean. Five colored clouds surround the skullcup of swirling marrow. This piece is a poetic description of the way the mind and body are said to arise in the Tantras. Much of the imagery is taken from Taoist and Tantric tapestries and esoteric texts. The marrow represents Mind transformed into wisdom nectar. The frothing foam is Beingness. The water reflects the different transitioning states of matter from wave to cloud. The five colored clouds allude to the essence of the five elements which compose all of phenomenal appearance (water, fire, earth, air and space).
