Folio Society - Sherlock Holmes

The Brief
For one of my projects, I chose to use the brief for the Folio Society's Illustration Competition. Participants were to read then illustrate scenes from a number of Sherlock Holmes stories. The project was a good exercise in following a strict brief - any illustrations were required to be scenes within the stories, requiring an attention to detail that may not be there for more open briefs.

The Man With The Twisted Lip
"He had turned his back so that none could see him but I. His form had filled out, his wrinkles were gone, the dull eyes had regained their fire, and there, sitting by the fire and grinning at my surprise, was none other than Sherlock Holmes."

The Musgrave Ritual
"From one of these I picked a battle-axe, and then, leaving my candle behind me, I crept on tiptoe down the passage and peeped in at the open door. Brunton, the butler, was in the library. He was sitting, fully dressed, in an easy-chair, with a slip of paper which looked like a map upon his knee, and his forehead sunk forward upon his hand in deep thought. I stood dumb with astonishment, watching him from the darkness."
