URBEX: Abandoned asylum II

The ex psychiatric hospital located in Vercelli was built in 1930 and is formed by 20 pavillons. The whole structural complex and the park surrounding measure almost 12500 squared meters.

As a consequence of the implementation of the Basaglia Law of 1978, the complex was closed and then turned into the "Azienza Ospedaliera di Vercelli" - a medical infrastructure - which was operative until 1991, date of its definitively closure.

In 1945 this place was the setting of the so-called “Slaughter of the psychiatric hospital of Vercelli”, which took place between the 12 and 13 of May. Here, a group of fascists of the Italian Social Republic were summarily executed by the partisans of the 182a Brigata Garibaldi “Pietro Camana”, after being picked up from the stadium of Novara.
