Course Description:
Through creative discussion, research and design projects, students will cultivate a foundation of knowledge in reference to the concepts and practices of Graphic Design. Students will explore the history and evolution of Graphic Design, the multimedia design industry, and the need for conceptual problem-solving and creative thinking.

The primary focus of this course is to provide students with in-depth experience in industry leading design software, learn about visually communicating through design, stimulate creative conceptual thinking and the development of effective design solutions.
Students will actively participate in class discussions and activities, produce a blog detailing their Graphic Design exploration, complete Design Projects, and participate in formal Critiques.

Learning Outcomes: Criteria for Assessment
- Display evidence of creative thinking through the exploration of design concepts.
- Effectively utilize technology, software and traditional media techniques appropriately.
- Demonstrate an appropriate and effective use of software and digital media skills including the following:
           -The rules of typography and visual communication
           -Understand how to apply type & graphic elements within a layout in both print and interactive media.
           -Demonstrate an understanding of type & image based communication.
