Graphic design is everywhere, publicly instructing, advertising, and sharing information in various ways. To see graphic design—and to learn about it—all you have to do is look.
For this photo collection, I chose to focus on the photographs that graphic designers choose to take of public graphic design. From what I can tell graphic designers pay attention to the world in a different way than other people to do. We take in typography everywhere we go, gaining inspiration, insight, and perhaps humor from the way graphic design interacts with the space around us.
In critique, and in making, interesting discussions regarding communication and voice arose. How do I present an archive? Should my voice be professional or should it be friendly? I found that I often used a “museum voice,” which made me consider consider the benefits and downsides of talking in a “knowledgable” and “professional” voice.
Other graphic designers including Kevin Dong, Ja Yoon Lee, Eliza Chen, Theia Flynn, Fabiola Millan, Tiger Dingsun, Gabriel Abascal, shared found typography from their personal collections, which will hopefully be further incorporated in future editions.
