Mediate BC is a not-for-profit organization whose roots go back to 1998. It administers lists of trained, experienced and professional mediators to serve the public interest with access to competent mediators and information about mediation. These lists first started with civil mediators (dealing with non-criminal or family matters) then expanded to include family mediators in 2002, and finally managing information for mediators on the Child Protection Mediation Roster in 2004. Mediate BC also developed three practicum programs (Court Mediation Program, Family Mediation Practicum Program, and the Child Protection Mediation Practicum) to support the experiential training of mediators in BC. Currently, the practicum programs have closed after having accomplished their mandates to increase the availability and diversity of mediators in areas across the province. Mediate BC has also provided customized training and system development for organizations looking for better ways to manage and resolve disputes internally and with external clients and stakeholders through its Conflict Management Services, Mediation Advisors, and Public Education & Training programs. Mediate BC has always, and continues to take an active role in supporting the community of dispute resolution professionals and ensuring that effective and healthy conflict resolution options are available to the public.
