Tahanan: Your Memories of Home - Website Design

The Tahanan project is dedicated to raising awareness on the experiences of Filipino Third Culture Kids (TCKs) from the Middle East.

“Tahanan”, a Filipino word meaning “home”, is the core of this project. The website, under the Tahanan project, aims to foster an online community where Filipinos can share their memories of Bahrain and interact with each other as well, in light of the difficulties brought about by distance away from home.
website preview
The approach to the style guide for the website leaned towards simplistic but with character. Tahanan was meant to be visited by young adult TCKs from the Philippines, but as well as old OFWs from Bahrain. Thus, the design of the website must be user-friendly but elevated with textured elements as not to flatten the entire look.
some of the different pages of the website
Users of the website are able to sign up for an account and share their memories of the different places in Bahrain, allowing them to interact with other people from Bahrain through comments and likes. Information on TCKs are also available within the site.

This would not have been possible without my programmers: Mike del Castillo (front end) and Mark Perea (back end).
animated illustrations of landmarks in Bahrain
I illustrated and animated each landmark featured on the website, along with handwritten calligraphy of the landmark names. Each spot is tagged with memories made by users from different walks of life. Feel free to visit the website at www.tahanan.org.

The website was exhibited at the Frontiers: Information Design Thesis Exhibit on April 16-25, 2018.
