The Art Institute of Chicago Mobile App is the museum’s “tiny docent,” and invites visitors to discover the collection through expressive, podcast-like audio content. As the lead designer on the project, I worked with the museum to create a friendly, clear interface. In order to keep focus on the auditory nature of the app, we kept the interface focused on wayfinding, and ended up making the map a persistent element in all sections of the app, so as to encourage visitors to discover artworks, follow the provided tours, as well as make sense of the complex museum space.
