Experimental photography - Lightpainting and stopmotion

Experimental lightpainting & stopmotion
Personally, I find this activity very interesting as I got to experiment with new techniques for the first time and it makes me anticipate on how the outcome would turn out to be. As shown above, it is an incorporation of light painting and stop motion. To me, it is a very tedious process as it requires a lot of patience and the model had to remain in the initial fixed position till the entire movement is over. Also, the people holding the lights had to ensure the amount of light being captured isn't too much.

Light painting and stop motion can be a technique use for campaigns of the National Integrated Council as the trials of different colored light can represent the different nationalities coming in. As more and more different colored light comes in, it forms a story of unity between different nationalities which eventually forms up a fascinating light painting short film to represent Singapore, a multi racial country.

Andy Warhol - "Eat"
The most striking feature of Andy Warhol’s films are their peculiar quality of working against their own medium. His films are mostly raw and unedited, mostly eccentric.

For the film “Eat”, it is basically an unedited film capturing a man eating mushrooms throughout the entire 40 minutes. He is filmed with a stationary camera and a cat enters the screen at one point. The man pets and stroke the cat while eating the mushrooms.

To me, this style/technique can be incorporated with NIC. As this film is unedited, it shows how genuine it is without any additional effects. For a campaign in NIC, I feel that it should also be genuine in terms of integrating both the locals and foreigners as being genuine is the only way for both parties to understand each other better before eventually accepting one another.

Simon Pummell - "Bodysong"
Simon Pummell has made many short films with an enormous diversity of techniques and style like combining fiction, documentary, animation, video art and transmedia. He is best known for directing “Bodysong”, a documentary feature film that portrays the human life-cycle through archive footages.

The film shows a variety of images, sights and sounds but all without a single word of dialogue. It shows a cycle of the human life, from the womb to the tomb.

To me, this can be incorporated in NIC as it shows how fragile life is, from entering the world before a series of events happen and eventually leaving this world. This can be shown in NIC to remind both the locals and foreigners on how fragile life really is, thus should be making the best out of it by accepting one another before building and living together in harmony.
