Club kid was a subculture started by a group of young NYC dance club personalities. They were flamboyant, outrageous, ambitious, and daring. These kids were the original influencers who came alive for the nightclubs.

Despite being terminally superficial they were the start of a culture of acceptance and gender fluidity that modern society is now catching up to. My work this semester looks to recreate this club kid scene of nonchalant expressionism of personalities and photograph them as portraitures. I try to explain to my models the history of the movement as I do their makeup and dress them in costumes made or curated by me.

What I love about photography is the ability to capture the human condition. In this project I aimed to bring to light the original personalities whose “i dont care” attitude has caught on and help my models at the very least embodies those characteristics.
