In Memoriam is a performance art piece inspired by the classical ballet Giselle. It symbolized love, forgiveness, and moving forward. The piece lasted about 45 minutes with 15 minutes of discussion with the audience, I walked for 40 minutes in an inward spiral and spent the last five minutes spiraling out, while walking across the dirt. I used the songs from Act II of Giselle for the spiral in, and used three songs of Act II played in reverse while spiraling out. I held onto a bouquet of white roses to resemble a different relationship throughout my lifetime, starting all the way back in elementary school, and as I meditated on each relationship, I would drop a rose. My costume is supposed to resemble looking like a ghost and a bride simultaneously. I started off with a thicker veil, but as I started, the veil caught onto my cross, which not only shed layers as the piece progressed, but added weight to the grave that I built for the center piece.
