ELEVATE Floor Lamp

When initially going through the ideation process for this project, I began with some specific design criteria. The overall design had to be something that is generally easy and quick to manufacture, something that could be flat packaged, and something that could be easily assembled by the user.
While I found many of the initial concepts interesting, I began modeling a concept that I felt was more successful than those that I had sketched. This brings me to my first iterative model. This model was at half scale, and used three beams for support.
After creating the initial prototype, I found many issues with it that needed to be fixed. First of all, the holes in the circular pieces needed to be slightly larger to fit the socket that I was using. Next, I needed to increase the number of beams for each section from three to four for more stability. I also had to find a way to fit shades within the beams.
Moving on to the next iteration, many of these issues had been fixed. I also modified the shape of the beams to have angled edges to use less material and make the connection appear more seamless.
I also 3D printed some pieces that would be placed inside the empty holes for easy cable management. Additionally, the shades were cut out of vellum in the same ascending proportions as the section spacing.
