Torsion Spring Table.

Torsion springs are meant to absorb force applied to them and are frequently used in car suspension, but rarely are used in furniture that is meant to stay flat and true.  I was drawn to the visual form of the spring and knew I would need to engineer stability into the system.  I first built the legs without cross support and once assembled drilled through the legs with a 18" long drill bit.  From there I TIG welded in the round rod and assembled a underside structure for the table top.  The top was lasercut out of 16 gauge sheet steel to improve stability and then folded using a finger break.  The center insert is Phillipine mahagony.
