Augmented Yule Log

This project was inspired by The Yule Log, which is a television program originating in the United States, which is broadcast traditionally on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. It originally aired from 1966 to 1989 on New York City television station WPIX. The program, which has run between two and four hours in duration, is a film loop of a yule log burning in a fireplace. I have reinterpreted this for the 21st century, bringing the Yule Log tradition into the digital age. I modeled some augmented fire and then went around Providence taking videos of me burning a virtual yule log in a variety of locations. I modeled the fire in Anyland (a VR headset modeling application) then exported the files into Unity and tracked them to my own image targets. I then built an augmented app using Vuforia. The original Yule Log was a gift to the residents of New York, and my version is a virtual gift to the internet.
