Brooklyn Bridge Intervention

This project explores Interface as a connector between people in socially mobile environments and in the process aims to understand how people interact with one another. Working in a collaborative partnership, you will choose a space that you feel has inherent meaning in its architecture, history, use, or current cultural significance. As observers, you will be paying attention to modes of interaction within your chosen space, noting social, personal, and cultural behaviors. The goal is to study what conditions and environments allow for fruitful interactions to occur.

For our initial prototype, we decided to leave unmarked, disposable cameras on the Brooklyn Bridge. We left them in various locations and surprisingly had remarkable results. The people passing - whether locals, bikers, runners or tourists - seemed to be curious about the cameras and delighted by the casual intervention. It gave users the opportunity to leave their own individual mark on the bridge - capturing each experience - at a glance - through a candid shot.
