My masters degree in biomedical visualization is valuable when working with physicians and scientist to develop educational and marketing material in print and video. I have communicated complex subjects to the general public promoting health care services, inviting collaborations and requesting funding. My specialized training allows me to research a topic and disseminate the information to a general audience using the appropriate multimedia visualization.
Medical Illustration (Top)
Audience: General Public
Purpose: Education of heart placement
Research: Advanced anatomy knowledge and multiple anatomical research sources
Concept: Layered educational illustration with callouts
This medical illustration began as a traditional line art drawing. Each layer was created individually, scanned and placed into photoshop. The layer transparency variation allows for emphasis to be on the heart and it’s proper anatomical position. Callouts provide key points for orientation.
Photoshop illustration ( Right)
Audience: General Public
Purpose: Likeness of traditional media translated electronically
Research: Advanced anatomy knowledge, light and form references, Adobe Photoshop capabilities
Concept: Utilize photoshop brush techniques to recreate likeness of traditional media
The Photoshop illustration was created in the likeness of the illustration by the famous medical illustrator Max Brödel. The original Max Brödel illustration was created in traditional carbon dust technique, I recreated the illustration electronically in Adobe Photoshop. I compared various brush techniques to similarily represent the carbon dust visually. Utilizing my knowledge of light and shade I worked with selection techniques to properly separate areas of the illustration.
3d Model (Bottom)
Audience: General Public
Purpose: Visually represent blood cells flowing through a vessel
Research: Studied the lining of blood vessels and red blood cells to understand form and researched 3D Studio Max capabilities
Concept: Utilize 3D Studio Max to represent dimensional illustration
The 3D model of the blood vessel was created using 3D Studio Max. The wireframe was created to represent an accurate blood vessel and red blood cells. The forms were textured to add realism and dimension. The lighting and camera were positioned to best represent the flow of blood cells through a vessel.
