This project is a book made of handmade paper. Inspired by a book called T'ien-kung K'aiwu 《天工开物》. This book systematically summarizes the technologies of ancient China. And I design the book from the essence of paper, Study of one of China's four major inventions of papermaking. Through my handmade paper to carry out the book design.
I thought handmade paper has been replaced by machine paper, like typing on the computer and phone gradually replace paper writing. So I interview different person about "What was the word you wrote on paper recently?" Let them write on the paper and give it to me. The age of the interview varies widely from 5 to 80 years old, they play different roles in the society, and each person writes different words. Their answer is the content of my book. Each piece of paper has different texture, just like everyone's character.
The purpose of this project is to protect and promote the traditional culture. To express Chinese ancient invention -- papermaking with my own design. And also shows the importance of paper and words in people's daily life. This project is also a reflection on the preservation of words and the shortage about the modern information dissemination.
