오방색 Seat Cushion
The seat cushion inspired by the traditional Korean color spectrum, known as Obangsaek (오방색) and Kimbap '김밥', a Korean dish made from cooked rice and other ingredients that are rolled in seaweed.
2018, Felt and Foam
Experimenting with the materials
I sewed the felt together (blue-red-yellow-black-white) to make a patterned fabric. I inserted the foam in between the felt and stitched it. Then, I rolled the finished fabric into a circular form to mimic a seat cushion.
I stitched the entire form to stabilize its form and shape. Then, I glued on more foam on top to give the overall cushion more volume and memory foam like quality.
Adding the final touches.
I turned the foam into Kimbap to give it a whimsical, playful element.
