Lighting Simulations and Client Presentations

These images show analytical lighting simulations of some of my lighting design projects that I have produced.  These projects are under construction, but not complete at the time of posting.

These images were created with Elum Tools (by Lighting Analysts) and Autodesk Revit.  In each case, the architecture was modeled, by others, in a separate Revit model and luminaires are added to a separate, linked Revit model.   Each luminaire family and type reads from a photometric (.ies) file of a real luminaire.

With this in mind, the intent is not to create a photorealistic image, but to quickly visualize and share lighting concepts with clients and inform my design decisions.  I will always call these "simulations" rather than "renderings"

The imagery below is, largely, un-retouched using the direct output of the simulation program.  Since many of these were created in early project stages, the architecture is not complete and, in the name of efficiency, I have learned to focus on the narrow intent of seeing and conveying the lighting effect in the imagery, rather than ensuring a perfect rendering.
Below are some examples of presentations I have made for clients to help convey lighting design options and strategies.  In some cases it is  helpful to show what the luminaires themselves look like, but often it is the simulations and application photos from luminaire manufacturer's websites that help the client understand the effects that can be achieved.
