In 2015, just before moving to South Korea, I started, by chance, a course on book making. I was not interested at first, but as the year passed, I realized this was, by far, the best class I had as an undergraduate up to that point.
The project is a book, named Detachment, fully written in Portuguese. The book also contains many different printing techniques, such as woodcarving, linoleum, silk printing, etc.
The written part tells the story of a young boy who, due to his parents job, had to keep moving from one city to another. Always the new kid, this ends up reflecting on his behavior, turning him into a very closed person. As he grows up, he falls in love with a girl from his school. He starts to open up once again, but due to other circumstances, has to move again, leading to his realization of how hard it is to part with people you became attached to.
The writing is complemented by 4th wall breaking illustrations, with characters based on the design of characters from the Japanese manga "Oyasumi Punpun".
