Wild Typography

  • My finished product is a hand-bound hardcover book, named “Wild Type.” I created all 26 collages, front and back, maintaining an entirely hand-written and assembled hierarchy system. The idea felt fitting for the assignment, since I was showing my notes, it felt appropriate that they should be handwritten and spontaneous. Since I chose not to work on a computer to generate my type, I got to be a bit more creative than usual with the way I laid it out. I had fun with the process, let myself be carried by the forms I got out of the photos and letters, and tried to maintain a systematic playfulness. I printed each half-letter-size page on a plotter and folded them into a big accordion. I then stitched the accordion to a piece of board, taped on a hard cover, and there we have it: my Wild Typography Field Guide.
