Although I am passably healthy, I still feel the itchiness and flakiness that Eczema entails. I strayed away from the color red, a color the resembles blood and scabs (to me) and created two garments with muted tones. The colors and textures mimic flakey skin as well as skin with vaseline (treatment), as opposed to the bloodiness and moderate to severe inflammation I used to experience. The observer and wearer both experience the Eczema differently. While the observer sees pink "cute" garments with symmetrical patterns, the wearer feels the slickness of the monofilament, that causes itchiness after wearing for several minutes. On the all-pink garment, the transparent monofilament bumps mimic location of the itch; the symmetry of the itch is a characteristic of eczema. The other garment with grey sleeves mimics the sleekness of vaseline. Vaseline does not add moisture to the skin, but works to preserve moisture, and allow skin to heal from within. The garments are created with visual and sensory stimuli of eczema.
The zigzag pattern on the sleeves of one of the garments creates two layers in the fabric. The darker, raised fabric, mimics the thick viscous quality of the vaseline as it works to heal the itchy dry skin.
