Down To The Water - #Broadchurch S3

— Down To The Water —
Our characters had lives before we joined them and they will continue to exist after we have gone
— Jane Featherstone, Executive Producer.

This story begins three years after we were last in Broadchurch. Lives have moved on. Some people have left, some have arrived - and there's a new case to test this old partnership. There are new suspects, new revelations and fresh truths to be confronted in the lives of Broadchurch's residents.
— Chris Chibnall, Writer/Creator/Executive Producer
BROADCHURCH 3 - #TheFinalChapter
Original UK Airdate: ITV - 27th February 2017

It's been three years since DI Alec Hardy left Broadchurch. And five years since Danny Latimer was left for dead, on Harbour Cliff Beach. But now, Hardy is back. Why is still unclear. A subject of contention which Ellie Miller is keen to avoid raising, despite her prudent curiosity. Yet, neither officer has time to worry about what may, or may not, have happened during this time as they now have a new case to address.
At the centre of S3 is Trish Winterman. A local woman, who is first found by PC Bob Daniels sitting on the steps, outside Broadchurch Police station. She is in a state of distress and confusion, with facial wounds that seem to indicate she has been the victim of a nasty physical assault. While it is unclear, at this point, if she has been a victim of rape, the two officers decide to escort her to a nearby clinic. Only then, when the results are back can they continue with their investigation.
However, as we have come to expect, no investigation in Broadchurch is ever quite that simple. And, within days the case takes a sinister turn with some alarming results. Some of which for Hardy is worrying. As there now appears to be some evidence that suggests it was not an opportunistic attack after all. Meaning, all of the women in Broadchurch need to be on high alert, as there is a real possibility that the town has a serious sexual predator at large, who could strike again... at any time.
— The Artwork —
Given the sensitive nature of season three's plot, I deliberated long and hard about creating a tribute piece.
After all, there's nothing to celebrate where sexual assault is concerned. Yet, much like before, in my previous designs, I wanted to create something iconic. Something that would celebrate the show and, more significantly the detective duo I fell hopelessly in love with all those years ago.

To date, this has probably been the most challenging and intricate piece of artwork I have tackled.
It is a combination of Photoshop/illustrator that started life very differently. It has caused many a headache, has been reworked, repainted, redrawn and at one point almost scrapped! But, it was definitely a labour of love I was determined to see through to the bitter end.

Additional note: I've refrained from going into detail, regarding the symbolism of some items used in the artwork so to avoid  giving away any *spoilers*. If you have seen S3 then I hope things will be reasonably apparent.
