The Golden Paintbrush

The Golden Paintbrush (Bóbita Puppet Theatre, 2017)

The subtitle of this story is ’Eastern story’ [Keleti történet] so the director and I took inspiration from Eastern theatre arts, such as masked plays and the creation of empty spaces that might only contain one or two paintings. As in several Eastern forms, I used a rug to demarcate the play stage. The masks displayed the most important personality traits of the characters. We also made two-faced, reversible masks. A very important
aspect of the performance - from the viewpoint of both designer and director – was how, and to what extent, the puppet and the puppeteer could connect with each other.

Based on Nemes Nagy Ágnes’ work adapted to the stage of puppet theater: Szaida  Khaled-Abda, Designer: Ottó Szabó,  Music: Szabolcs Szőke, Director: Tamás Somogyi
