A competitive CrossFit team and a sponsor were in need of new uniforms reflecting their new team name, sponsor, and attitude, as they aimed to try their luck in the 2016 Spartan Race (Mechanicsville, MD). A discussion with the client revealed their stylistic choices, color limitations, and apparel preferences. After a mockup and some minor edits, the team and sponsor met to decide on the design.
All illustrations above are original pieces, excluding the light blue crab in the bottom option. The Maryland flag crab is by no means an original idea, but the elements used are hand drawn.
The approved design is shown below. The artwork was screen-printed onto navy and black shirts. Five screens were used; white, black, red, gold, and an underbase white to maintain the vibrancy. By the client's request, the colors of the actual shirts were much brighter than the final mockup below.
