The class I had with Lars West called CREATURE LAB allowed me to explore and design all kinds of creatures. He is an amazingly helpful and knowledgeable professor. He let us go beyond the limitatation of  imagination. Therefore, I have this precious chance to do designs that interest me and be able to accomplished the idea that long embedded in my mind.

The assignemnt is to combine an organic creature with non-organic thing. I am intrigued by the idea of Chinese steampunk style. I think it would be interesting to see a artificial spider that harness steam power. So I come up with this girl manipulating a steampunk spider with a chinese latern.

2. QALUPALIK:

We are asked to invest a mythological creature that actually told by people. I chose QALUPALIK who is a human-like creature lives undersea. He or she is long hair and takes away babies. It is from an inuit myth, which probably blames for the high infant death rate there.

3. CENTAUR: Design a traditional magical creautre,centaur, but bring new stuffs to make it unconventional. It wasn't a very successful attempt because I didn't fully get rid of the traditional concept of centaur, but at least learnt how to design a muscular character.  

4. Darling, you are my eyes

I think it would be very poetic to portray a big white blind monster who provides dwelling for tiny eye butterflies. Those eyes in return are willing to bring him sight in this dark forest.

5. Plant Design ----OXYGEN FLOWER:

I guess I am still facinated by the symbosis idea, so I create this plant called oxygen flower. The female form of it is highly toxic, but the male plant is smaller and more portable. It inhales all kinds of gas and provides fresh air for human. The plant became a main thing in people's lives in the future.

6. The Dragon

I was too obsessed to make it unconventional that leads to a point where I found it less a dragon more a pegasus. Therefore, I made a compensate design in my final to visualize a better concept of dragon in my mind.

7.  The final Assignment: Alien Design

I don't like the fact that most of the alien design we have is uncivilized and naked creature. I want design aliens that have their own culture just like Na'vi in the movie AVATER. They have their devine dragon and their own custom.

8. Lovecraft Creature:

I missed one week so here is the assignment I made up for it. The assignment is to do a creature in Lovecraft's novel. I pick MIGO and add my own interpretation to it.
