What happens when our body consumes different types of carbohydrates?
Simple carbohydrates or complex carbohydrates?
When the body consumes simple carbs (chocolate, candy bars) the blood sugar increases to a level that is considered harmful. In response, the body increases its insulin levels to regain normal blood sugar levels. The blood sugar will decrease drastically; this is what we call sugar crash. The effects of sugar crash includes sudden loss of energy and hunger (even though the body does not require more food).
When the body consumes complex carbs (fruits, vegetables) the blood sugar increases steadily and insulin is produced within normal levels, so the blood sugar levels remain stable. This creates a consistent energy production within the body.
