Poster for Tomorrow 2017
The theme of the year was Freedom of Movement, and with the poor treatments of immigrants all around the world, I felt like we could use a little heroism. People, from everywhere, can do great things; or small things, like being good parents.
Captain America, the icon of the U.S.A., is the son of Irish immigrants who was raised lovingly.
Superman, the paragon of justice, the embodiment of excellence; created by Jewish men (his name, Kal-El, means in Hebrew Voice of G-d), was an "illegal alien". Ironically, as he is an alien but no person, in my opinion, can be considered illegal.
Wonder Woman, excellence personified. Though she's technically not "Greek" per say, as she lives on Themyscira, the city of the Amazons, it was close enough. She represents the culture shock people go through when they migrate someplace new; the will and the want to do, and to be, good.
I chose a retro-style poster to create my project; inspired by the propaganda posters used during the XXth century; to mock, in a sense, the hatred of the Other by instead putting heroes where the "enemy" would lie.
