Glasnevin Cemetery, Beneath Nature's Tapestry

Glasnevin Cemetery is 180 years old and amongst its eight kilometers of sweeping pathways lie over one million graves.  As part of the cemetery's €11 million regeneration, completed in time for the 1916 Rising's Centenary, every single headstone and its vast surroundings were being restored to their original condition.

To restore the cemetery to a pristine condition however, is to remove much of the cemetery's old world charm.  Those sunken headstones, weather beaten monuments and crumbling facades, hidden amongst tall grass, behind rusting railings or beneath generations of nature's tapestry, make Glasnevin Cemetery an eerily beautiful place to visit.

These series of photographs attempt to capture that unique beauty while documenting the cemetery's regeneration.
