This project was born from my interest in how Jacob's ladders work and my desire to understand the movement. During the development stage of this project, I realized that ribbon is used in traditional Jacob's ladders because it acts as a live hinge that can hinge in both directions. I realized that it would be possible to make an entirely metal Jacob's ladder with mechanical hinges if some of the hinges were doubled. Aluminum is used to provide structure for the body and tin plated steel is used to make the hinges. The tubing inside the hinge and the rivets are made from brass tube. The project was made for my Metals 1 class.
