The three projects presented from Wood I are the bent lamination project, for which the prompt is something that holds five apples, the carving project, which is a vessel, and the lathe project.
Bent Lamination
Made with laminated ash wood and constructed with various types of joints, this fruit bowl is my lamination project in Wood I.
Starting with a designed curve for all the laminated pieces, the final form was designed through the process of working with the curved pieces.
There are a lot of tiny joints with small points of contact, and yet it is a sturdy fruit bowl with a stable base and relatively large volume.
Carving Project
For the carving project, instead of one larger vessel, I decided to make a pair of vessel that
The concave curve on one vessel conform with the convex curve on the other, creating matching forms that allow the two vessels to fit together.
Both vessels have the same outside and inside textures. The outside texture was finished with paint and sanded down.
Lathe Turning
The lathe project was open-ended, so I decided to make them into a pair of dolls.
