A/W '17 - Unwrapping: Junior Apparel Tailoring Class Final Project

Designed and made by: Claire Chow

Model: Arthur Kim

Description:
In this piece, I am communicating the idea of transformation metaphorically through the ribbon. A piece of ribbon can be easily manipulated, beautifully transformed, and unraveled through the beholder's hands.
Like the ribbon, I have experimented with my interests and took different paths during my journey in life that lead me to become the designer I am today.
In the look, I have created a men's jacket paired along with matching trousers to give the look of your average white-collar worker. The jacket is appliqued with brushed twill in the shape of ribbons and bows which wraps around the body. The transformation is where some pieces of the ribbon are "peeling off" the body, revealing a fun underneath layer of crushed velvet to show the designer part of me that wants to break away from the path of becoming an expected white-collar worker, and instead reveal the personality in me as an artist.
