Introduction to Interior Studies - Studio Final

Our final studio project was to propose an intervention into the Bank Building, currently home to RISD's Furniture Department and 3D Store. This intervention would see the implementation of a new program into the space, and a design that considered the existing structure of the building.

My chosen program was urban farming, in order to bring fresh produce to the RISD community, and the greater community of Providence. I dedicated the second floor of the building, with its existing double-height space, to the growing operation - allowing for tall vertical growing stacks to be placed throughout. The third floor, originally only a small balcony overlooking the second floor, was transformed into a catwalk so that the farm could be observed both from an operational standpoint, but also as an attraction to visitors of RISD and the city of Providence. The first floor became a farm stand to sell the produce, with a dynamic landscape ramp drawing visitors into the space.
