For this project I wanted to create a living space that would encompass the style of the Mid Century Modern time period of design. Through researching the style, designers, and looking at spaces that others have already created, I was able to develop a concept board where I found appropriate colors and textures, and established the overall aesthetic of the space. I decided to create a living room as this is typically where families spend most of their time together, and the space where I felt I could best showcase this era of design.

Original Sketches 

By sketching out the space and coming up with appropriate dimensions for the living room, I was able to put my ideas down on paper and reference them throughout the project. I came up with three versions of the space and chose the one that I felt I could best represent this style, without it being too overwhelming as it is a smaller space. 

Final Floor Plans

From my original sketches, I moved onto drawing a floor plan to show what the space would look like from an overall perspective. I based the final floor plan on the first sketch because it seemed to be the space I could do the most with, and truly develop a Mid Century Modern living space. All floor plans are in 1/4" scale.

By creating a SketchUp model of the living space, I was able to make my drawings come to life and truly visualize what the space would look like. Since I only designed a living room, the rest of the house is not shown, so that it is the focus of the model.
