Part of the charm of the You Are Beautiful sticker is in its apparent default aesthetic. The design is ubiquitous, and so is its typography. Typeset in Helvetica bold, all lowercase, it feels familiar… like it has always been there. When Matthew Hoffman asked for my help detailing his iconic sticker, I wanted to be sure to not change the original character of the design.
With slight adjustments to the kerning, I corrected some of the spacing issues present in Helvetica’s default kerning (especially the ea combination). The slightly open letter spacing works well for small and sticker-sized applications. I also created a version with tighter letter spacing for larger applications where that extra negative space isn’t needed.
