Day-lighting Light Study
The purpose of this project was:
-To study, through a physical model, the effects of light and shadow within a space.
-To understand the position of the sun at different times of day and through the seasons.
-To understand and be able to read a sun path diagram.
Box Version 1
The 1st box shows the sun light during the winter solstice at 8AM
The 2nd box shows the sun light during the winter solstice at 12PM
The 3rd box shows the sun light during the winter solstice at 4PM
The 1st box shows the sun light during the equinox at 8AM
The 2nd box shows the sun light during the equinox at 12PM
The 3rd box shows the sun light during the equinox at 4PM

-To use the shaping of form and space to direct, reflect, color and screen light.
-To study, through a physical model, the effects of light and shadow within a space.
-To understand the position of the sun at different times of day and through the seasons.
-To understand and be able to read a sun path diagram.

The purpose of the third box was:
-To use the basis of an understanding of Gottfried Semper’s four elements of architecture, particularly framework and enclosing membrane.
-To use the enclosing membrane to shape space; directing, reflecting, coloring and screening daylight.
-To demonstrate understanding of the position of the sun at different times of day and through the seasons.
