Energy Efficient House in Mumbai
This is a renovation project for a single family hose where coexist two matrimonies with 4 kids. It was necessary to renovate all the functional structure of the house and remove the roof and the slab of the house in order to provide privacy and comfortable spaces for each of the members.
It was necessary to create natural ventilation and illumination to all the spaces of the house. This was quite a challenge due to the house is located in a high-density city. For this purpose, we placed the staircase in a symmetric position with respect to the entire house, in which we add a turbo ventilation on the top along with frame hight windows in all the spaces. The staircase extracts the heat wind and provides with fresh air the interior of the spaces.
The advantages of this type of house allow creating comfortable microclimate during winter and summer without using heating or air-conditioner.
The house is 1.008 sqft, three floored and has a terrace on the top floor. On the ground floor, there are the kitchen, spacious living room and a WC for visitors. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms, one for children and the other for a marriage, with a private bathroom for each room. The second floor comprises a bedroom with a private bathroom and a terrace. On the terrace, we have added a pergola with 45 degrees angle frames. Multiple tests have been made for the specific weather of Mumbai, due to the terrace is place in the south, so we try to mitigate this strong sun mostly in summer.
