The final version of a raster logo I was commissioned to create for a local Jeweler under the LLC Metal's Edge Smithery. The image was created by first photographing a number of tools the client gave me with the task of making them look eventually like a letter S. I took several photographs which I then cleaned up, removing the background, as I don't have an Amazon-style photography setup for getting perfectly white backgrounds with no shadow. After I had the shapes themselves, I twisted them into the correct shape using the puppet warp tool. After I'd created a number of test options for the client, we reconvened and the client asked me to refine the sample image that became this image.
This is a test ad I created when applying to a local advertising firm having been given sample images, fonts and information to convey with a one-page flier. I started out by getting a scale for everything by sketching out thumbnails with pen and paper to get a sense for the layout I was looking for. I knew I probably to split the image at dutch angle thirds to generate a sense of both cohesion and visual interest. That diagonal line there lays out the lower third, the line drawn from the ends of the text to the back wheel of the upper car lies very near the upper third line, the back and right tires of the upper and lower cars respectively lie on the right third line and the center of the upper car and left headlight of the lower car mark out the left third. I got this kind of layout by first marking everything out in Illustrator. I then fit in the text relatively along third lines while still maintaining consistent margins and font sizes for particular bits of information. And then before I had the final version, I had to go back and edit the colouring of the lower car as it was originally silver with a blue background and I wanted the colours to agree.
This is an image of a soundcloud rapper I hand-vectorized in order to get a cell-shaded sort of look.
