Salt/Sugar Dispenser Prototypes

For this project I designed a set of dispensers to solve the problem of salt and sugar clumping in the container. The exploration began with a trip to Hope and Main, where I met the owner of Newport Sea Salt Company, Matt. After a brief discussion he said since his salt is made from pure sea water from Brenton Reef, he doesn't put in any additives during the process. That includes anti-clumping agents, the lack of which can sometimes cause clumping. This inspired me to design dispensers that can solve the problem of sugar and salt usually clumping when left in a container.

The set of dispensers are each designed for fine grained salt and sugar (grey) and corse grained flake salt (white).
The cap on the bottom twists and opens, where sugar or salt can be loaded.
To dispense rotate the crank and any clumped salt or sugar will come out the container unclumped and ready for use.
The dispenser utilizes a crank which rotates a screen inside the container.
Various screen shapes were tested for each dispenser. First on the left was used for the flake salt dispenser and the second on the right was used for the fine grained salt and sugar dispenser.
