URBAN GREENS - Inner City Garden

URBAN GREENS

University of Brighton Major Project 2010
A hydroponic growing aid for inner city living

Having the luxury of being able to grow your own fresh produce is a commodity that few of us have, especially in a world where 70% of the population is estimated to be a city dweller by 2020. Urban Greens is a hydroponic growing aid designed for inner city use. This compact designed grow box allows cultivation of a wide selection of vegetation within minimal space. The use of closed system hydroponics allows plants be grown closer together, whilst generating faster growing times, greater yield and reduced water consumption. Vitamin levels can also be higher as none is lost in lengthy transportation, reduces the users reliance on imported goods and helps “greenify” our concrete jungle. This automatically controlled and solar powered growing environment means low maintenance, allowing for ease of use alongside a busy lifestyle. Urban Greens in designed to be adaptable allowing the user to interchange the three growing plates to suit users desired vegetation array. It can be hooked over balconies, attached to exterior walls outside windows, or simply placed in a small patio or garden space. Hopefully keeping the next generation of inner city children from becoming detached from food production.
