Urban solid waste management in Catalonia
As a final master thesis -Master in Architecture, Energy and Environment- I research about the urban solid waste management made in Catalonia, Spain, and about the relationship between landfills and territory.
In this research paper I make a historical summary about how we used to destroy waste and it is shown how environment laws have affected location and technology in landfills as well as other waste management infrastructures.
Nowadays, urban waste management is complex because it has to recycle and/or recovery as many materials as possible.
Despite that, there are still a lot of landfills in Catalonia, and most of them will be operating over the next few years.
Along the paper, numbers offered by the Catalan Waste Agency are used to draw new maps and diagrams to make them comparable. All the information is critically analysed.
