Smocking Technique

How to make a clutch using smocking technique?
Gather the fabric that you wish to use. I have taken a white cotton fabric. Smocking takes a lot of fabric. Make a small sample in the same fabric to see how much you might require.
Mark your design. Always prepare a sample to know how the design will turn out. Make sure to wash off the marks after we handstitch.
Join both the ends of the diagonal lines marked earlier and stitch tightly. Make sure to make a knot at the end and through the stitch. As it is hand stitches you can choose to either continue the same thread to join all the diagonal lines or choose a new yarn each time. If you continue and the thread breaks during the wear and tear of the clutch all the stitches might come loose.
This is how the wrong side turned out!! Make sure to finish each stitch, so that the stitches don't open. Now the choice of using the wrong side or right side as your main side is upto you. The design and look will be different. If you choose the worng side you can add beads or pearls along with each stitch for surface ornamentation.
Stitch the fabric, with the idea of how you want your clutch to look like. And you are done with a Smocking Hot Clutch! You can add a sling to it or rock this style.
