Therapeutic objects. Between theater and design

Obiekty terapeutyczne. Między codziennością a spektaklem. // Therapeutic objects. Between theatre and design

Experimental project conducted on the frontiers of design and theater. What new to the theater can bring a carefully led design process? How the objects animated on the stage can enrich the thinking of the designer? Three objects designed to be animated by an actor or user and to come to the existence on the theatre stage or in everyday life. At the same time, each object left alone with the user provokes and encourages reflection. Anthropomorphization of human emotions, needs and anxieties gives them therapeutic functions - they are tamed in material form. Designer suggests the meaning and functions of objects, actor or user discover and recreate them. The large object is simply about being, the medium object murmurs and grunts, trying to draw attention to itself, the small object is alive - it breathes steadily. The large object represent the body of the loved one, the one we want to nestle up to; at the same time it represents me - my body, which is imperfect, the one I'm ashamed of. Conscious selection of material, its texture and color suggests association with the body and the pillow, but the form of the object leaves open space for interpretation. Medium object was designed as a laboratory of human relationships. It expresses the need of interaction with other people, but also fears related with such contacts. All these emotions are enclosed in a safe form of anthropomorphic sphere, which resonates sounds coming from the speaker installed inside. Small object is baby body sculpture with built-in breathing mechanism, which makes the chest rhythmically rise and fall. It draws attention to the phenomenon of life, but also encourages reflection on its' fragility.
