Pong Pro is an Internet of Things project featuring an app and hardware for table tennis. The app itself comes with a trackable paddle and a small portable camera for ball tracking. This gives the users an automated score keeper, great feedback on their game analogy and various statistics.
Coded prototype is here. It is optimized for iPhone 6.
The 3d printed paddle is of the exact size of a regular table tennis paddle, with the addition of a bluefruit board with an IMU attached to it. The movement of the paddle is being tracked and evaluated. The data is then transmitted via bluetooth to the phone and stored in a database.
The camera is a Raspberry Pi 3 computer with a camera attached to it. It is encased in a 3d printed model and runs a program which tracks an object of an orange color (table tennis ball).
The user testing was an extremely intresting and fun part of the project, because I got to see what exactly the users think and how they interact with the app. I did a lot of iterations and always implemented the changes, and then performed another round of user testing.

The project was originally supposed to have game-like features, but due to many rounds of user testing I figured what really works and what the users really want. This lead to the Scorekeeping feature, and game-like features such as achievements were scrapped.
