MAYO BOARDS

Larry Mayo is a shaper out of Cocoa Beach, Florida. He has been shaping boards for over 15 years. He shapes his boards by hand, and he is involved in every aspect of the manufacturing, from beginning to end. Most of the boards he shapes are inspired by designs from the 60s and 70s, but he adds his own modern design interpretations to the mix. There is a strong “retro trend” in the surfboard industry, and Larry has built a strong following in this market, by experimenting with new surfboard industry, and Larry has built a strong following in this market, by experimenting with new surfboard designs based on re-interpreting proven design formulas.

I wanted this logo to have an organic, hand-made quality, so I experimented with marks using ink brush. The shape language is evocative of the fluidity of water and waves, as well as the beautiful curvilinear elements common to 60s/70s posters and textiles.
