Concept
The title of my is "Stupendous" and the added ingredient is "Candy Pieces". To make an original yet boring elements of what is currently out there on the market is the goal, and to create a product that is fitting for the context of what it displays, having great composition, and being eye-catching. Though the creation of this product is also an experience to learn how these food products are made and how the special effects and tweaks can be added and made to make a viable food item that can be appropriate for the supermarket shelves. I chose a longer styled bar to fit the length of the title.
Sketch/Insights
Whilst I was originally sketching up a text layout, I wanted something that was a little quirky to fit the abstract title name of the bar itself,  a little wavy, but then I experimented with the more heavyweight fonts as it feel the shape of the bolder fonts represents the shape of the candy bars well. Additionally,  far away legibility is further enhanced, though this may come at a cost of the text being a little generic. Though the word “Stupendous” does scream loud and bold, so I decided to travel with the bold font using Impact.

Text
Using the Bevel and emboss tool in Photoshop and the 3D tool in illustrator, I played around with how I could make the title pop and have depth, as with most chocolate bars on the market. The envelope distort tool allowed for a wave effect which pushes a milky feel. Using these tools was mostly self explanatory and I didn’t find myself struggling too much with them.
Package Surface
Originally, the back drop was going to be a white to dark brown gradient, but after using the liquify tool in the filter menu, I could modify it to look as if it was a somewhat liquid chocolate surface, and this contrasted well with the middle white text and made for a good balance, I feel that the liquify changes were only subtle, so I didn’t look too fake or computerised, a border was also considered, but that had no use in hindsight. Though it was nothing outstanding, so adding coloured stripes fitted well and also connected with the theme of the candy pieces.
Life Images
Due to the fact that I had the changed brief of having hard candies in the chocolate on the surface, and at at a small scale. I didn’t have to worry too much about the precise accuracy of whether it looked exceptional, because it really wouldn’t be noticeable. Though with the candies, they only came in blue, but with the Hue/Saturation tool in Adjustments I’d easily be able to adjust to my desired colour. Then, only slightly erasing the edges to give the illusion of the candies embedded in the font of the chocolate. A light drop shadow was added for depth.

Planning/ Application
I feel like everything overall was was structured and planned, after learning some time management mistakes from the last project, I didn’t have much trouble in that regards, because at this point I am much more familiar with the adobe suite, working my way through editing and manipulating images and text wasn’t too hard, using liquify, bevel and emboss and hue/saturation adjusted made the assignment speed through. Changing the opacity and scaling items also was key. The addition of a drop shadow too gives the realistic “pop” illusion, and using these tools combined, a realistic market candy bar is achievable.
Touches/ Backdrop
With the aid of the gradient tool, liquify and a white spray in the middle, I created a messy swirl into the product, looking and feeling “Stupendous” it feels right, and the colours also resemble the side stripes on the bar. I also add noisey pink speckles on the text to enhance the candy feel, though not dominating over the entire text, only on the white insides.
Conclusion & Future Application
I feel that I have worked a lot faster and more efficiently compared to the last project, the technical aspects of using the software wasn’t too much trouble. The biggest hurdle I faced, and still struggle with is composition. Every-time I would analyse a marketed product, I would admire the technical skill of how the text and food is shadowed and how real and authentic it looks, but another challenged is composing it well, and placing all the elements in the correct position without looking awkward or having a disjointed hierarchy. Additionally, researching the correct mockup before designing a layout is essential. I’m glad that early on in the assignment, I observed how everyone else was working and observed how they worked and asked how they achieved a certain look. In the future, I would sketch a little longer and experiment with more colour combinations, then rather just heading right in and not acknowledging some of the fundamentals, also experimenting with more free fonts online, than just what adobe supplies you with.
