The Art in Videogame | Videogame Aesthetics Artbook

This was my last project at the Academy of fine arts, my Master thesis.
During degree in Graphic Design I got in touch with different ideas, shapes and sizes of art, each course showed me the techniques, the history and the motives of art from his point of view, proposing sometimes correlations between individual arts to shaping in us artists and scholars as complete as possible, providing cultural tools to fully grasp the beauty of art.

According to Baudelaire, "the sight of the art scholar has the task of "seeking and illustrating the beauty of modernity", and this is where my analysis directed and channeled me to one of the most complete forms of art in interaction and modern in enjoyment: the videogame.
I was attracted specifically from the relationship between the latter and the visual arts, a thematic subject that is very little and often misguided by the more traditional art critic, by searching and analyzing the most important and common features among them.
Before entering this discussion I thought it necessary to talk about the definition of video game and itself as a medium.

Obviously, the following must be seen as a subjective choice of titles that more than others have been able to use graphic elements and art styles to elevate, selected from a list of more objectively significant titles. So it should not be seen as a "cool" list of titles from which to start playing "video games", but as a gallery with "enriched captions" containing the best that you can see (but above all play) to date in artistic terms in videogame. The choice was made in over three hundred titles, which I have tried and played first in the course of sixteen years of gaming (although most of the titles have been published over the last seven years), the final skimming of the securities to be dealt with is the result of choices that privilege the communicative power and the way in which they are linked to the various artistic forms (hence reflecting the relevance of the discussion).

In conceiving this discussion I thought of a mini-studio that could contribute to spread videogame culture, showing that even video games can be art and try to capture the bonds with visual art.
All this is done by an analysis that also proves an increasing interest of Major, investors, developers and audiences for video games that have their focal point in the artistic component. quickly absorb revenue generated by PCs and home consoles, just as it did with portable consoles. As for gameplay, even single player historical titles are opting for an online formula, trying different variants, from free-to-play advertising to monthly subscriptions and many have over the years plagued the resulting end of the single player. In my sixteen years of gamer I saw changing the world and with him the video game in many ways, always attentive to the added values that this evolution has brought, in addition to the mere increasing detail and realism that follows. The future of video games seems to be destined for a steadily growing economy, especially from the point of view of mobile gaming that according to market studies could which again (fortunately) did not happen.
