Floating in the River
In 2016, the Swiss National Museum announced a campaign to fill the picture panels on the courtyard facade which have remained empty for hundreds of years. The winner artist Mario Sala created this project below, DVSAVHELDS, both to decorate the museum and emphasis its role as the agent and traces of the human history.
While the fragmental, irregular slabs of stone highlight the destruction of human intervention during war period, the brokenness, stillness and coincidental quality of this piece also shows the existence of each individual in the big context of history. Inspired by this project, I decide to make a sculpture to reflect on the relationship between individual and history.
