Architecture Lecture Series Poster

This projects purpose was to utilize the font we created and apply it to a poster that matched our typeface. The Dames Point font was originally inspired by a bridge so naturally the thought was that the font would fit best on a poster about an Architecture Lecture Series. From early on the goal was to incorporate some sort of architectural element in the background of the poster to create space and depth. The initial motive was to use the texture provided from a stack of wood as that architectural element. The contrast of the natural wood element balanced the modern black and white composition of the poster. The geometric shapes provided from the blocks of natural wood inspired the overlaying of the geometric boxes throughout the poster. This design element also provided adequate organization for the large amount of type required to fit into the poster. The purpose behind the mixture of geometric shapes was also used to catch the eye of the viewer of the poster. The line work in the Dames Point font and the geometric boxes creates movement and allow the eye to move throughout the poster. The biggest challenge for this project was mixing the geometric graphics in the background while still having the large amount of type be clearly visible.
